Chair's Corner

Message from Cole Brecheen November 01, 2021

Thanks very much to all of you who were able to attend Thursday night's Central Committee meeting. For those who weren't able to join us, here are a few highlights, all subject to correction when the minutes come out, but to the best of my recollection:

  • Representative David Gomberg spoke briefly about the effects of the recent redistricting, and we got a chance to express a lot of heartfelt appreciation for him. We recorded this part of the meeting for public viewing:  https://youtu.be/NpicSfhlaAc. It's not too long -- 22 minutes -- but if you can't watch it all, at least listen to how he answers Betsy's question at about the 19:40 mark. This link will take you directly to it: https://youtu.be/NpicSfhlaAc?t=1180.

  • We elected Betsy McMahon to the position of Second Vice Chair. Many thanks to the Nominations Committee and to Betsy for stepping up!

  • We referred several matters related to (among other things) right-wing activities in the local school system to the Legislative Committee for research and recommendations as to how we as a Party might take action. If you want to be where the action is, at least where community and governmental action is concerned, you need to be on the Legislative Committee. It presently does not have enough active members, and that limits our ability to be as effective as all of us would prefer.

  • We decided to cancel the November Central Committee meeting so as to place our full focus on a critically important Sharing Session that the Governance Committee will be hosting on Thursday November 18th. The subject is our Endorsements Policy - something we have needed to talk about for a long time. I'll be sending out more information from the Governance Committee shortly, but please make a mental note to pay attention when that arrives. Your input in this Sharing Session will have huge downstream effects on what we do and our effectiveness as a party.

  • And we decided to cancel the December Central Committee meeting just because.
